It’s Not a Crime if Fox Doesn’t Carry Obama’s April 29 News Conference
As Alex Weprin at Broadcasting & Cable notes in an April 27, 2009, post headlined “Fox Skipping Obama Press Conference, Network to air new episode of 'Lie to Me' instead,” “The White House asked the broadcast networks last week to block off an hour of time on Wednesday {April 29, 2009}. “Wednesday marks Obama’s 100th day in office,” B&C added.
According to Fox, a News Corporation property and the highest rated national cable outlet in the United States:
B&C said, “The cable news channels are planning wall-to-wall coverage of the press conference, bringing out their top analysts and technology. Also on tap are “reviews” and “grades” of the president’s first three months in office.”The Fox Broadcasting Company will not air the Presidential News Conference on Wednesday, April 29 at 8:00 PM,” . “Fox’s sister networks, Fox News Channel and the Fox Business Network will air the press conference in its entirety. Fox will be alerting viewers with an on-screen graphic at the top of the 8:00 PM (ET) hour that the press conference is available on Fox News Channel and the Fox Business Network.
I have no problem with Fox Broadcasting not airing President Obama’s speech in prime time. If traditional Fox viewers want to see the speech, they can always go to CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC or view it on the Internet. It will most likely be on the Net within minutes after it concludes.
