Laid Off Journalists Start The Arizona Guardian and Heat City

On January 5, 2009, “four laid-off East Valley Tribune workers -- three writers and an editor … started their own Web-based news site to cover the happenings at the Arizona Legislature,” according to Ray Stern at the Phoenix New Times.  They named the venture The Arizona Guardian.

According to Stern, “another laid-off Tribber, Nick Martin, also began his own news site this morning [January 5, 2009].” The site is called Heat City.

It’s good to see these journalists taking the initiative to create their own jobs. To read more, see “Laid-Off Workers From East Valley Tribune Hope to Earn Livings With Online News Sites.”
