Apple Needs A Blogger Who's Not A PR Hack Or a Zealot

I blog using a 667 MHZ Mac PowerBook G4 with a Giga Byte of ram. I also use a powerful Hewlett Packard (HP) desktop replacement laptop running XP Pro. Occasionally I use my IBM ThinkPad or my HP Desktop. All these machines run XP Pro.

The HP laptop/Desktop is awesome machine, at least to me, in terms of performance. It's rugged and I've never had a problem with it. And I love the 17-inch wide screen.

However, when I carry it around, one side of my body droops. I think it weighs about eight pounds. My doctor even recommended that I stop carrying it around. I did.

On the other hand, the PowerBook, which I carry with me everyday, is thin and comfortable. So much so that, I've been thinking lately of buying a 15-inc or a 17-inch MacBook Pro. But after reading about the shutdown problem with the machines, I'm leery.

Robert Scoble over at Scobleizer has made me think about not buying another Mac just yet. See his January 1, 2007, post headlined "Never piss off a 12-year-old."

I've also being reading a lot of blogs and computer publications looking for information on the shutdown problem. What I've been reading has left me torn. I find myself saying maybe I'll be among those who'll never experience the shutdown problem. Yet, I'm skeptical about plunking down nearly $3,000 on a Mac Intel machine on a gamble.

Finally, I'd love to see Apple put on a friendlier face. Get a blogger who can do for the company what Scoble did for Microsoft. He made it seem friendly after years of displaying arrogance and unmitigated greed. Pleas, no PR hacks.

The blog wouldn't necessarily attract the die-hard Mac fan who thinks Apple can do no wrong. They have their blogs, which I read and enjoy. It would be for those not yet using Macs, and those of us with feet in both the PC and Mac worlds and are thinking about switching solely to Mac.

If Dell can come down off its high horse. Certainly Apple should be able to do it and appeal to a brand new market that needs a little nudge. Maybe it could lead to Apple selling Macs at the rate it sells iPods. It's worth a try.
