Wired News Publishes File on AT&T's Role in NSA Wiretapping

On May 22, 2006, Wired News told its readers why it published what reporter Evan Hansen says is “A file detailing aspects of AT&T's alleged participation in the National Security Agency's warrantless domestic wiretap operation.” See “Why We Published the AT&T Docs.” To read the documents, see “Whistle-Blower's Evidence, Uncut.”

If you are interested in the details and backstory, as I am, be sure to read the various links in the wired articles. I’ve read many of them and found the technical details fascinating reading, and a clear sign that spying on U.S. citizens is now as American as apple pie. Here in Chicago, we have cameras watching all the time, including on trains, buses and traffic lights.

Interestingly, I rarely think about them. But that’s what spying governments all over the want from its citizens. It’s my guess that the phone company/NSA phone record debate will continue for quite for awhile.
