Citizen Journalists and the Mainstream Media

In its 2005 top 10 stories, P2PNet.net said "...the single most important development for 2005 has to be the reality that citizen journalists, posting on Internet blogs and personal pages, are steadily replacing the traditional vested interest mainstream corporate media as the principal sources of reliable, unspun news and information. Coming in 2006? Vblogs - video blogs."

Many bloggers that comment on news events, me included, wouldn't have much to blog about if the mainstream media (MSM) didn't do what it does, shortcomings and all.  Maybe its importance will change a few years from now. Besides, the MSM isn't going anywhere. If anything, citizen journalists will cause more MSM journalists to start blogging in an attempt to remain relevant. As for corporate MSM, it will simply transform itself and buy up potentially lucrative blog ventures.
